There’s a new breed of curtain-twitching nosey neighbour emerging from the streets; the ‘knowsey’ neighbour, according to property website Zoopla.co.uk.
Zoopla! defines a ‘knowsey neighbour’ as someone who not only keeps tabs on the current value of their own home, but regularly checks the value of their neighbours’ property.
As a nation we’re gripped and fascinated by property. We love a good nose round our friends home and regularly dine out on our plans to extend, refurbish or ‘play the market’, but now, as house prices have fallen it seems it’s not only our own houses that have come under the spotlight. Homeowners are becoming more informed and increasingly looking for reassurance that their own property’s value hasn’t fallen by as much or are taking some comfort in the knowledge that they are not alone with a value drop.
Zoopla! analysed hundreds of thousands of property value estimates provided using the website’s unique real-time valuation tool to uncover Britain’s ‘knowsiest’ neighbours.
It found that Londoners are more likely to regularly check the value of their own and their neighbours’ properties than residents anywhere else in the UK. Liverpool, on the other hand, is the city with the least ‘knowsey’ neighbours in the country. Overall, residents of England were found to be the ‘knowsiest’, followed by Scotland and then Wales where residents are least likely to track their neighbours’ house values.
